Hockey star Boogaard just found dead in apartment!!

Alright everyone, not a lot of details yet...but a HUGE shocker on this Friday night!!  Derek Boogaard was just found dead in his apartment in Minneapolis.  They haven't told us what happened yet, all the public knows is of Boogaards passing.  He spent most of his short career playing with the Minnesota Wild from 2005-2010 and then played for the New York Rangers from 2010 until 2011.

"Derek was an extremely kind and caring individual," Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather said. "He was a very thoughtful person, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

This is truly very very sad news!

RIP Derek

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends!

Details to come soon!

Nadal's AMAZING between the legs winner!

Check out this video of Rafa's between the legs shot during the finals at the Madrid Open on Sunday.  He ended up losing in 2 sets to Novak Djokovic!

Check out my article on the match, and Novak's 34 win match streak here: Novak pushes win streak to 34

Djokovic Continues his 34 match win streak

Hey Everyone!

So I'm just going to write a quick post about Novak Djokovic and his 34 win match streak. It is going to be something worth watching in 2011 to see if he can beat John McEnroe's 42-0 match streak!

Novak recently beat Rafael Nadal in Madrid to win the Madrid Open. This was the first time Djokovic beat Nadal on clay in 10 attempts. Nadal, the number 1 player in the world said: ''I came up against a great player obviously - he's having a monster year; He was better, you have to accept that.'' Djokovic also beat Nadal in the finals at Indian Wells and Miami.

It's an understatement to say Djokovic is the 2nd best player in the world right now when clearly he is number 1. Not only did he beat Nadal on clay, but this was Nadal's first loss on a clay court in 2 years! Just goes to show how dominate he is on the clay court. So honestly, it's only a matter of time until Novak becomes number 1 in the world, even Rafa admitted that. ''The No. 1 ranking is not in danger - it's finished. Let's not lie to ourselves, that's the reality,'' Nadal said. ''Nobody likes to lose. I have to see what's missing and working with a cool, open mind to decipher things and find the solutions. To try to do a little better next time.''

I really think this is one of the more exciting tennis years so far. With all of the changes in the world rankings, and the new rivalry between rafa and Djokovic. We can't forget about Roger Federer either. It has become an international game, with no American, Male or female, in the top 10 in the world rankings...thats a first. The rest of the tennis season should be a good one to watch!

"Mammas don't let your babies grow up to be Lakers fans"

With the Mavs currently holding a 2-0 series lead over the Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks marketing team haven't stopped doing what they do.  They currently released this song, with Dirk leading the way.  It's a great song if you are a Mavs fan, and if you are a Lakers fan...well then I can only imagine this must add to the frustration.  LA needs to get it together, and get over their "Trust issues" and move on as a team if they want any chance in getting back in the series.  Kobe is good enough to change the game in a second, he just needs some help.  I'm mostly talking about Gasol here, he looks like he is ready for the season to be over.  Without Gasol playing at a high level, the Mavs will close out the defending champs!

What do you guys think of the video/song?

Hines Ward Held at Gunpoint

Ward, currently a contestant on hit ABC show "Dancing with the Stars," was riding in a Honda Civic driven by an unidentified woman who owns the car, Los Angeles police Sergeant Maria Morrison said.
Hines Ward, the Pittsburgh Steelers MVP wide receiver was held at gunpoint by Los Angeles police on Thursday.  Ward was riding in a Honda Civic with an unidentified woman, when the police pulled them over.
The woman whom he was riding with, had reported her Civic stolen when a restaurant valet could not find it.  After a little searching they were able to find the car, but then once they found it, she forgot to cancel the police report.

"Early on Thursday morning, officers in a patrol car pulled over the Honda Civic, and they held Ward and the woman at gunpoint and handcuffed them while they sorted out the situation," Morrison said.

Once officers determined the car was not stolen, the police released Hines Ward and the woman.
I checked out Hines Ward Facebook page to see if he made any comments and here is what he said:
"I want everyone to know that this was a complete misunderstanding," The police were just doing their job. Apologies were made and it's now in the past."

It's nice to see that Hines is a forgive and forget kind of guy.  It's also nice to see the LA police doing their job.

Andy Murray, Schiavone Supports Pre Match Sex (Hilarious)

Alright guys, check this out!

Within the past 12 hours two tennis players were asked a variety of questions, including their thoughs about sex before tennis matches.  It's a big question in the sports world, that has 2 distinct answers.  Some athletes (fighters, some football players, rugby, etc) say that sex before a match/fight/game etc is a no no because it lowers testosterone levels.  Then there are those who endorse sex before a big event.

The recent French Open champion Francesca Shiavone was quoted saying ‘For a woman, sex before a match is not only allowed, it is fantastic. It raises your hormone levels and brings advantages to all of your points. ‘In recent years I have grown, and my feminine side is a lot more visible. But it is a gift reserved for just a few.”  (Just to clear things up, she was voted on being one of the more...how should I say it...manlier tennis players)
And then we have Andy Murray.  When he was asked this question he was much more modest in saying that tennis players can't afford to give up sex.  They play so often that if they turned it down, the would never have sex.  Whatever helps him sleep at night I guess.

Anyways, what is everyone's thought on the matter?

Is Washington in trouble?

Hey everyone!

What a weekend huh?  It started out with one of the biggest events of the century, The Royal Wedding.  This crazy weekend came to a close with one of the biggest news stories/events since 9/11 with the death of Osama Bin Laden.

For the past few days my posts have gone away from sports, and with big events like that I just had to at least give my viewpoint on those topics!  I also have started a campaign to volunteer in Lesotho Africa.  I have had some following on what I want to do, but am far from the number of people who need to know about this for it to actually happen.  So if you have time please check out all of the details here: Help me get to Lesotho Africa and pass the word along!

Ok on to the Washington Capitals!!

Round two of the 2011 NHL playoffs are now underway!  After the Capitals beat the NY Rangers in the first round, they now are going up against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  The first two games were played in Washington D.C and the Lightning came ready to play.  The Caps lost their first 2 home games, the way I look at it.....not good!

Washington is a superior team to the Lightning and they proved that during the regular season, beating them fairly easily all 4 times they played eachother.  The playoffs are a different breed though.  It's where the "Crazy" things happen.  The underdogs get this confidence from somewhere, and can compete with the top dogs.  A great example of this is during march madness.  You get the 12 and 13 seeds taking out the "better" teams.  A Wisconsin team might beat George Mason 8 times out of 10, but it just takes that one almost fluke game to end your playoff campaign.

It's time for Washington to rally behind Alex Ovechkin.  The Caps are known for "Choking" during the playoffs.  They need to let the past go, and look towards the future.  They will never play for a Stanley Cup if they can't get that monkey off of their shoulders.

ONE major thing that will help Washington win.....well lets get the powerplay going!  Going 0 for 6 on the powerplay is ridiculous, especially when you not only have the best player in the NHL on your team, but one of the top powerplay units in the LEAGUE.  All it takes is for one goal on the powerplay to open the flood gates.  The next two games are now in Tampa.  They will have to get the powerplay going if they want any chance to bring the series back to the Capital.  Vincent Lecavalier for the Lightning is in my opinion a has been, and is having one of those "Magical" series.  Lets put him on the ice, and be done with him.

Confidence and powerplay success is what the Washington Capitals need.  They lost the first 2 home games, but in a playoffs where home ice advantage hasnt meant much, I'm not too worried about that.  I will be worried though if the Caps lose game 3.  Lets hope for an early powerplay goal from the stallion Eight the Gr8 to get the team going.  With a little more confidence, the Capitals have the talent to win it all!

U.S Kills Osama Bin Laden

The U.S has killed Bin Laden.  Ten years after 9/11 he is finally gone.  It is a huge boost for the United States and its allies.  Lets hope this can finally start to end all of the turmoil around the world; lets also hope this doesn't cause more violence!

The few details we have is he was killed in a compound deep in Pakistan, some reports are saying outside of the capital of Pakistan.  Apparently a United States Asset was the one who killed him. So a small team of special forces.  Obama knew about this for a few months, and it took this long to determine whether that initial lead was correct.  Obama last week gave the go ahead to send this small specialized team into Pakistan.  We did coordinate this effort with the Government of Pakistan.  Props to that special forces team who did this for America and its Allies!

This is for all of those who lost loved ones on 9/11!
